Active Shooter Response Training

Response Training

Our active shooter response training goes beyond the basics, honing in on actionable strategies for unarmed individuals to minimize risk during such critical situations. Rather than simply presenting case studies, we delve into the invaluable insights gleaned from past incidents, distilling what has been proven effective. This training is often referred to as Active Assailant Response Training.

What sets us apart is our direct access to survivors and law enforcement officers involved in some of the most prominent active shooter events. These firsthand accounts provide us with unparalleled understanding and allow us to continuously refine and update our presentations to ensure maximum relevance and impact for our audience.

By empowering participants with the knowledge and skills to recognize and respond to potential threats, we aim to significantly enhance the number of vigilant observers and proactive responders in any given scenario. Together, we can be part of the solution, turning awareness into action for safer a environment to live, work, shop, celebrate and worship.

Active Shooter Response Training

  1. Our Focus: Our training is not just about passive learning; it’s about equipping individuals with specific actions they can take to protect themselves before and during an active shooter incident.
  2. Learning from Past Incidents: Rather than just presenting case studies for the sake of it, the training distills the key learnings from these past incidents. This means identifying what strategies and responses have actually been effective in real-life situations.
  3. Access to Unique Insights: The training team has had the opportunity to directly speak with survivors and law enforcement officers who were involved in significant active shooter events. This gives them firsthand insights into what happened during these events, what worked, and what didn’t.
  4. Continuous Updates and Customization: The presentations are not static; they are constantly updated to reflect the latest information and are tailored to the specific needs and concerns of the audience. This ensures that the training remains relevant and effective.
  5. Empowerment and Action: The ultimate goal of the training is to empower participants with the knowledge and skills they need to be proactive in recognizing and responding to potential threats. By increasing the number of vigilant observers and proactive responders, the training aims to contribute to a safer community overall.

Quick Response Team (QRT) Training

Are your floor monitors and floor wardens ready to respond? These on-site employees are your immediate responders during an emergency. They can make the biggest difference in saving lives and minimizing damage. Our goal is to provide them the confidence and knowledge so they can be the “calm in the storm”.

This Training will cover:

Training may include table-top exercises and scenarios where students can work through simulated incidents and then receive guidance from instructors.

Options also include preparing, training and equipping the QRT members with all hazard backpacks. Fully loaded and ready to deploy. Essential items necessary for effective response.

Security Force Active Shooter Response Training

IS YOUR SECURITY PREPARED FOR AN ACTIVE SHOOTER?

The average armed security officer does not have sufficient, or frequent enough training to effectively neutralize an active threat under the typical active shooter ‘combat’ conditions. Given current training standards, they might lack confidence, injure an innocent bystander, or get themselves killed. Mindset is also critical in this type of combat situation, and the armed security officer may not be able to act when needed.

When asked, most security officers do not know what they are supposed to do during a critical incident where people are looking to them for help and guidance. Most armed security professionals have attended minimal firearms training where only the required number of bullets are fired. This could be as little as fifty rounds shot per year. Many are also not familiar with the relevant ballistic properties and the accountability of each round that is fired.

Training security officers is very different than training police and military members. Law enforcement officers have the benefit of a three to six-month law enforcement academy versus the armed security officer having eight to forty hours of training. We work alongside security officers and have a training approach that works. Security should be the most valuable asset during critical incidents and our training focus is to make sure that is the case.

Why Train with K17 Security

Our instructors specialize in active shooter response and reality based training. We focus on the relevant skills necessary to be prepared to deter, detect and defend during a hostile incident. Our instructors are current and former law enforcement officers, and military members. Furthermore, they have been recognized as some of the very best at what they do. Special forces members in the military. SWAT and special operations division in the police department. Our police officer instructors are the same ones designated by their respective police departments to conduct active shooter response training on behalf of the police department.

We focus on the armed and unarmed response options. A firearm is not always the answer. It is important for armed security to understand the circumstances where a firearm can make a difference and times where the gun should remain holstered.

Our combat shooting training prepares armed security to overcome the adrenaline rush, fear, tunnel vision, panic and confusion which are present during an active shooter incident.

We include training on:

  • Reality based scenarios: Best to experience chaotic and overwhelming situations in training opposed to in reality for the first time. We teach them to prioritize and execute.
  • Communication: How to communicate with one another and anyone else around while chaos is present.
  • Liability & Legal Considerations: Use of force continuum, State and local laws, Powers of Arrest
  • Emergency Response Procedures
  • Security & Life Safety Awareness
  • Preparing for the law enforcement response. Vital information shared with security so they can avoid a “blue on blue” incident where responding law enforcement confuses security with the shooter.
  • Training includes table-top exercises where students can work through simulated incidents and then receive guidance from instructors.
  • Students are tested after completion of the training course to ensure they understood and retained the necessary information. They receive certificates of completion that provide a feeling of accomplishment and help boost morale.

Our training program is based around standards, guidelines, best practices and lessons learned.

If live-fire firearms training is not possible for armed security officers, we have alternate options. To include: Simunition (non-lethal paint rounds), airsoft (force on force training) and firearm dry fire. Training program is designed to build confidence and a solid foundation of skills.
